DJ Wade - O Are You Ready?

Scripture: I Corinthians 9:12 (New Living Translation)
12 If you support others who preach to you, shouldn't we have an even
greater right to be supported? But we have never used this right. We
would rather put up with anything than be an obstacle to the Good News
about Christ.

Devotion
A couple of weeks ago, I had a friend of mine, DJ Will from
Jacksonville, on my radio show. He shared a testimony about being
arrested in Miami, Fl for essentially sharing the gospel with people.
He and a group of Christian Hip Hop artists went out on South Beach on
Saturday evening while all of the clubs were open and began passing
out CD's and tracts to spread the Good News to people. Without going
into all of the details, he was eventually arrested that evening.
Initially, he was frustrated. I've never been before, but I'm sure
being in jail on a Saturday night is not a fun experience. And while
being arrested was a painful experience, Will said he found comfort
knowing that he was doing the work that God had called Him to do.

Throughout the 9th chapter of I Corinthians, Paul talks about how he
had a right to demand a salary from the church at Corinth based on the
work that he was doing in that church. But when you look at other
passages in both his letters to Corinth, you can see that not everyone
trusted his intentions and motives. Paul knew that if he took a
salary, those distrustful feelings could intensify and the Corinthians
may not be receptive to the Word that God wanted him to share with
them. So instead, he made tents to support himself financially and
not "be an obstacle to the Good News about Christ." He was willing to
make that sacrifice.

This Word challenged me big time this morning. Many times we want to
do ministry or the work of the Lord, if it's nice and tidy. In other
words, we don't mind serving, as long as we don't have to sacrifice
anything. This just in…if Jesus didn't sacrifice, we wouldn't be able
to serve. And our sacrifices, pale in comparison to his sacrifice.
Are you willing to sacrifice, in order to do the work that God has
called you to do?

Grace and Peace,
Wade

Pass it Down DJ Wade-O

Scripture: Psalm 103:18 (New Living Translation)
Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord.

Devotion
I always find it interesting when I watch a movie that contains a scene in which a parent gives a child a necklace or some other piece of jewelry that has been in the family for generations. The parent will tell the child that the item has been in the family for “200 years” and it gets passed down when the next generation comes of age. The child usually becomes over taken with emotion, because they understand the responsibility that comes from taking care of the item being passed down.

Think if we shared our personal experiences with the Lord in a similar manner. Think of how much of a head start they would have in facing tough situations that may face them. Think of how many times Paul and the apostles quote the Old Testament. The Old Testament represented for them, the stories of his Jewish ancestors’ encounters with God.

I hear people talk a lot about how many people in the current generation didn’t grow up going to church or how many don’t know God. And I think that at some point, we failed in passing along our testimonies and experiences with the Lord. If they were told about the Gospel and why Jesus came, at least they’d know right? I came across this passage this morning, it made me think: “What am I doing to make sure that future generations will be able to praise God in part based on what God did in my life?” I pray that this passage challenges you to do the same.

Grace and Peace,
Wade

Is Your Heart in It?-dj wade o

Isaiah 66:2b-3a (New Living Translation)
“I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word. 3 But those who choose their own ways—delighting in their detestable sins—will not have their offerings accepted.

When I walked in a well-known pizza restaurant a couple months ago, I was immediately shocked at what I saw. The guy who was taking orders, had a Bluetooth headset in his ear, a Yankees fitted hat on his head and while the customers were placing their order, he was day dreaming. As I chuckled, I just kept thinking how much this guy doesn’t want to be here. It seemed very obvious to me. Regardless, I was starving, so I accepted his customer service, or lack thereof, got my pizza, and left.

We all can think of situations like that, where we knew someone’s heart wasn’t behind the service they were providing us, but we accepted it anyway. While we focus on the end result, in my case, getting my pepperoni and sausage pizza, God focuses on the thought behind it. He wants our hearts. In the scripture above, he’s telling the people, if you do what you want to do and your heart isn’t with me, I’m not going to accept your acts of service towards me. You don’t really mean it.

We can go to church every Sunday and look the part to everyone, but if our heart really isn’t in it, God will know. We can carry our Bibles with us, everywhere, but if we never read it, God will know. And maybe, that guy did want to be at the pizza restaurant and I just caught him on the wrong day. Only he and God truly know the answer to that. The same goes for our relationship with the Lord. If you are just going thru the motions, I encourage you to ask yourself what is prohibiting you from truly committing to the Lord. Remove that thing from your life. As we discussed yesterday, God has your best interest in mind. Trust him.

Grace and Peace,
Wade

Scripture: Proverbs 3:5,6 (New Living Translation)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Devotion
These past few months, there have been many things going on in my life that left me confused and unsure what to do next. But the principle behind this scripture, seeking the Lord, is what has kept me, not just physically, but mentally and spiritually. Asking the Lord what He wants me to do and then doing it has truly held me down. It affirmed in me that when we do not know what to do or when we’re confused, hurt, disappointed or distraught, seeking and trusting the Lord will make a huge difference. It sounds simple, but it’s tough, because God’s plan may not match up with what we want our plan to be. You even see countless stories in the Bible where people asked God what to do, and than failed to do it, because it was “inconvenient” for them (II Chronicles 18:7). But always remember, we serve a God who knows best. He created our whole reality, so of course he sees things thru a different lens then us. Therefore, it behooves us to trust Him in all that we do. His ways and thoughts are not like ours (Isaiah 55), yet he has plan for each one of us (Jeremiah 29:11). Trust the Lord today; He has your best interest in mind.

Wade
